Senopati Nusantara ferry will be found out.
Semarang, CyberNews. The Indonesia Maritime Security Coordinating Board (Bakorkamla) believed that the wreckage of Senopati ferry will be found out immediately. It is strongly predicted that the ferry wreckage is in the Rembang water. Therefore, any ways to find the wreckage should focus on the area.
The assumption is mentioned by the head of the logistics and communication section of the controlling operation center of the central Indonesia Maritime Security Coordinating Board, Ir. Djoko Tjahyo Purnomo, MM., MH., to Suara Merdeka Cyber News at the sideline of visiting integrated post for handling victims of the ferry tragedy, at the passengers’ terminal of Tanjung Emas, on Saturday (13/1). He was accompanied by the head of policy operation preparation, Drs. Ramses Kamsuddin, MSi.
“It is in line with the data received from the Directorate of Maritime Police (Ditpolair) of the Central Java regional police”, said Djoko Tjahyo. Further he said, “The sinking location of Senopati ferry is located about 24 miles of the southeast of Mandalika island. The previous information mentioning location of the wreckage was 24 miles of the north of the island proved to be false.
“We received this information from the Maritime Police of the Central Java Police who had previously received the information from a Senopati crew who survived in the tragedy. The position of the ship wreckage is not in the north of the island. At this moment, I believe that we will be able to find out the ferry wreckage if the focus of the search is over the Rembang waters”, said Djoko Tjahyo.
He explained that Senopati ferry was supposed to sail to Semarang from Kumai on Friday (29/1). The ferry did not sail through commonly used sea lanes to reach Karimunjawa water. The ferry was forced to sail through Rembang water.
Since the weather was not conducive, the ferry captain Wiratno took a decision to protect the ferry by sailing behind Pati area. From Rembang waters, the ferry planned to sail through the waters of Rembang, Pati, up to Semarang.
Yet, the weather surrounding the waters were bad. When the ferry started to continue sailing to Semarang, at the time 22.45 (Indonesian western time), the direction wheel was no longer functioning, and then the ferry machine was damaged. Therefore, it could not sail. Shortly after that, the six-hundred passenger ferry sank into the water.
However, there could still be other assumptions that need to be checked. We would continue finding the wreckage in the southeast of Mandalika”, said Djoko Tjahyo Purnomo.
